In short: have documents and keys ready, do not fill the tank, charge the battery, remove loose items, photograph existing damage and sort out insurance.
Documents and keys
- The registration document, original or copy, as agreed.
- All keys and, if applicable, the immobiliser code.
- A letter of authority if you are not handing over or receiving the car yourself.
- For destinations outside the EU, such as Switzerland, the necessary customs and export documents.
Fuel, battery and fluids
Your car only has to drive a few metres under its own power for loading. A full tank is not needed and only adds weight. A quarter is enough.
- Fully charge the battery beforehand. Starting problems on the ramp cost time.
- Check for oil, coolant or fuel leaks, and tell us if your car drips.
- Check the tyre pressure and the handbrake.
- Switch off any alarm system or tell us how to deactivate it.
Loose items and interior
- Remove loose items and valuables from the car.
- Close the soft top, windows and sunroof.
- Retract aerials and secure removable parts such as a hardtop.
Documenting the condition
At collection we record the condition in a report and with 15 to 25 photos. Take your own photos as well and note any known damage. That way the condition before and after transport is clearly documented.
Report anything special in good time
- Ground clearance: for very low cars we check in advance whether the loading ramps need extending.
- Not running: if your car does not start, we transport it by arrangement. Loading then needs a pushing aid or a forklift at the collection point.
- Access: the rig is up to 13.50 m long and 3.30 m high and needs room to turn. Tell us if the access is narrow.
- Sensitivity: the trailer is insulated but not climate-controlled. For particularly temperature-sensitive cars we discuss this in advance.
Sort out insurance
Our statutory liability as a carrier is limited per kilogram. For a valuable classic it is rarely enough. Ask your classic car insurer whether transport is covered, or let us arrange transport insurance. An up-to-date valuation report helps in the event of a claim.
